Episode Summary
Plagued with nightmares featuring the devastating power of his Avatar State, Aang and the gang meet an Earth Kingdom general who has big plans for defeating the Fire Nation. Meanwhile, Prince Zuko and Uncle Iroh, having survived the failed attack on the North Water Tribe, have a surprise visit from the Prince’s sister with seemingly good news.
“Take Care, Son”
Paku: Katara, I want you to have this. This amulet contains water from a spirit oasis. The water has unique properties. Don’t lose it.
Katara: Thank you Master Paku.
Paku: Aang, these scrolls will help you master Waterbending. But remember, they are no substitute for a real master.
(Aang looks back at Katara)
Paku: Sokka…
(Sokka looks on expectantly)
Paku: Take care, son.
“Not Bad”
(The Earthbenders greet Aang, Katara, and Sokka with an elaborate ceremony)
Sokka: Not bad. Not bad.
“Practice, Study, Discipline”
Aang: I told the general I’d help him… by going into the Avatar State.
Katara: Aang, no! This is not the right way!
Sokka: Why not? Remember when he took out the Fire Navy? He was incredible.
Katara: There’s a right way to do this: practice, study, and discipline.
Sokka: Or just blow it up and stop that Fire Lord.
“Is It Working?”
General: This rare chi–enhancing tea is a natural stimulant. In an ordinary warrior it improves strength and energy tenfold. In you, it may induce the Avatar State.
Aang: Tenfold energy huh?
(Drinks tea, beings twitching)
Aang: (Hyperactively) Is it working is it working?! I can’t tell. Somebody tell me if I’m in the Avatar State ’cause I don’t have a good view of myself. Am I talking too loud?
Sokka: I guess he could talk the Fire Lord to death.
“Still Not Glowing”
Sokka: Maybe I could shock you into the Avatar state.
Aang: I love surprises.
(Sokka jumps out with Momo as his head)
Aang: Aaah!!!
(Pause)
Aang: Still not glowing.
“Who Knows Better Than You?”
Aang: Sokka, Sokka wake up.
Sokka: Uh?
Aang: I don’t think we should be trying to bring on the Avatar State.
Sokka: You sure?
Aang: Yes.
Sokka: Okay.
Aang: Do you think the general will be mad?
Sokka: What can he say? You’re the Avatar, who knows better than you?
“Good… Bird… Horse… Thingy”
Sokka: Good… bird… horse… thingy.
“See Me Like That Again”
Aang: I’m sorry Katara. I hope you never have to see me like that again.
General: Ha, are you joking?! That was almost perfect! We just have to find out a way to control you when you’re like that.
Aang: You’re out of your mind.
General: I guess we’ll figure it out on our way to the Fire Nation.
(Sokka knocks the general out)
Sokka: Anyone have a problem with that?
